The beginning of boat season
The beginning of boating season in the Northeast doesn't start on a lovely day in May or a sunny day in June. It begins in late February in 39 degrees with a bright sun that gives off no heat. Today Curt is off to the boat to begin our 2010 boating season. His projects include removing a best stanchion to take measurements for replacement (in landlubber-speak, stanchions are those stainless steel pole thingies that run along the sides of the boat and have "life lines" or (typically) covered wires running in between) and a general check in of the old girl. I do believe Curt enjoys the pre-sailing season as much as the actual sailing season (did I mention he's a handy sort of guy?). Some beer, some tunes, a bag of Cape Cod chips, and his tool bag on a freezing Sunday on his boat - Curt's idea of heaven. As for me, I'm sitting by the fire with my dog and a good book this afternoon. At some point I will also check in on the boat this spring...perhaps April....
